Use of Now

One may have several chances to live in many worlds and yet all these worlds shall remain an illusion if you cannot prove what you are really here and now.

Jai Paramartha of Kothipalli is a mystic who has figured in a number of my stories. He and his disciples one day came upon a village in distress.  A fire broke out somewhere and was rapidly encircling the village. No wonder while Gampa Guru or Jai Paramartha came there was none who took note of him.  Each one was busy salvaging whatever he could. All their livestock were saved. Nothing remained except a mongrel and it was trapped in a ring of fire.
Though the poor beast howled none came forward to claim him. Gampa Guru asked them why he was left out.
One said that they saved only those who were of some use.
“ That mutt dropped in our midst uninvited. Besides in previous birth he must have done things worthy of the fate which he faces now.”
The disciples however brought the dog to safety. The animal upon seeing Gampa Guru ran up to him and rolled about his feet. The master bent to him while the dog growled low into his ears. Villagers were curious and wanted to know what was the mutt whispering into his ears. He answered that the dog came as their guest to find out how many of them would in next birth end up as he.
When they seemed skeptical he shrugged his shoulders and said: “ If you don’t believe me ask him yourselves.”
•    If life does not here and now teach you to respect life of another, reincarnation of trillion births is useless exercise.

What is really happening in Gaza?

‘There was no substantial rocket fire from Gaza during the ceasefire until Israel launched an attack last November 4th directed at what it claimed were Palestinian militants in Gaza, killing several Palestinians. It was at this point that rocket fire from Gaza intensified. Also, it was Hamas that on numerous public occasions called for extending the truce, with its calls never acknowledged, much less acted upon, by Israeli officialdom. Beyond this, attributing all the rockets to Hamas is not convincing either. A variety of independent militia groups operate in Gaza, some such as the Fatah-backed al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigade are anti-Hamas, and may even be sending rockets to provoke or justify Israeli retaliation…’

Do such acts justify Israel’s devastasting air attacks against Gaza? President Bush calls actions of Hamas as an act of terror. What planet is he from?

One World at a Time

Chacko worked as a servant in our household. He is one of the laziest fellows I have ever seen. Because he was young my father let him get away with many liberties that other servants dared not take. He attended along with us Sunday services and in one of the revival meetings he said he was saved. ‘Blood of Jesus made me new.’ He said. He was still lazy but he showed always penitence whenever his lapses were pointed out. Then he became a Pentecostalist and nights we heard him happily clapping away ‘drunk with Joy in the Lord’, as he put it. Years later he came to live in my household. Much of his swagger and high spirits had given to way to self effacement.
For a weekend I had taken my family to visit a relation of ours. Before we left I had given Old Chacko a list of chores and he said, ‘Leave it to me master. Consider it as done. The Lord shall work a miracle.’ Of course the last sentence didn’t reassure me much.

When I came home I found the servant had left the house in disarray. When I confronted him he had no excuses than say, ‘ Jesus said seek ye first the kingdom and…” I almost exploded and thought it would only worsen my blood pressure. That evening I sent him away. Watching him walk away happily with his Bible under his arm I thought he ought to have been born in any other world than this world where our responsibilities cannot prayed away.
If I cannot be responsible for my world what makes me think I shall be given another world? Perhaps an irresponsible world that an irresponsible Being has in reserve? I think Chacko shall then be a pastor of such a world. From my experience he was cut out for such a world.
