If I tell you of love and life
Lived out under the fading Sun
Will you think me as strange
As my poor sense to cut a figure-
Mismatched socks and frayed cuffs
Do not make me: I do not care
For my person or obsessions
As much as your hold
On my life and love.
If I tell you of pain and hell
Borne out of time in a heart
Not meant for any of these
What strangeness would you impute,
If I declared my love
With no shame?
You say, ‘ a slut I am
And better I belong to gutter
Than drag you into mine’.

If I tell you of love and life
Lived out under the fading Sun
Will you think me as strange
My reasons to love you still?
I have pain and live hell
With love and life so mismatched
As my socks, for instance.
We shall live in gutter if our love
Could match with life
No matter what
Under the fading Sun.
We shall make our bed
Beneath the rising Moon.
The Sun has merely traded
Right of passage for the Moon:
Heaven or Hell cannot
Mean a thing to us.
