Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful (Ps.1:1)”.

The Hebrew word esher is here translated blessed, This word indicates “to be straight” or “to be right.” It has a variant ashar meaning happiness or contentment. Esher is a form of the Hebrew word ,  So blessedness is to be straight with God. Abraham and God were on same page in step so Abraham was a friend of God. Being friend does not mean it is static but promises of happiness sit well on him. In short it has a future leading to a happy state: joy and rest are equally implied. When God promised to bless all families on the earth through him means their friendship would lead to some blessed state.

It is made clear in the many Parables of Jesus regarding service.  “His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord (Matt:25:23)”. It is a joy that no man can take away.

The world also offers the kind of joy for example that a man who is given to alcoholic drinks  “At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder(Pro.23:32)”

Blessedness of godly man is basically determined by rules that guide him on the earth. He serves God the Maker of heaven and the earth. He does not have to hang out with loafers, one reason could be found in the Parable of the Laborers in the Vineyard (‘Because no one has hired us,’ they answered.Matt.20:7’); Happiness can be the outcome of those are not distracted by sideshows of the world and they want to fulfill their master’s wishes as quickly as possible. So their mental physical and emotional reserves are only for one thing only: to be found good and faithful servant.

Not every one has the same understanding. Some hear good counsel but do not hold it well. ADD can be a spiritual disorder. There are those who are ready to shake hands on the half-baked schemes that others hatch and let them circulate. They are promised but do they get in the end? Ungodly are those who know the rules but always find loopholes so they might help themselves while on their master’s tasks. Ministers of God with their activism would impose Christian ethics so National Prayer Breakfast is the time for their lobbying in the corridors of power. Has anyone seen it work enough to make the nation godly?  These are also sinners.

Those who are scornful know how to grade God’s children by their color and means.  In their lexicon poor and colored belong to rat infested inner cities while the rich in towers built on locations vacated by strong arm tactics are to be humored. They sure know how to bully those who are poor folks. To hobnob with them has an insidious effect to learn their boastful mannerisms. Similarly sitting with powerful and rich and basking in their VIP status is total waste of time. What can add to listening those who know the dirt of every rival and airs it to all and sundry?

On the other hand we are refreshed in spirit when we spend time with those who are blessed. “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid(John 14:27-NIV). Blessedness also indicates rest as having earned it. Blessed is used as praise when we speak of God.

Romans 15:13-33

St Paul as the minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, stands being sanctified by the Holy Ghost as an apostle. It signifies to all that his credentials are signed by the blood of Jesus Christ and as with everyone purchased by it is part of the kingdom of God. His epistle is to be seen as preparatory work before he could visit them in person. ‘Whensoever I take my journey into Spain, I will come to you (v.24). He is viewing Rome in his day the seat of Imperial power and steeped in idolatry as the Gentile World. For the Romans borrowed Greek gods wholesale after supplanting the Greeks as world power. In our day New York would be a stand-in for Rome. New gods have replaced gods of yore. Power of secular kingdoms is like names writ in flowing water while the kingdom of God…

St Paul is here laying out code of conduct as to what makes good neighborliness in the kingdom of God. Even in the ways of the world every civilized person is told ‘When in Rome do as the Romans do’. In the kingdom of God there is a parallel word of advice. It is what we have in the vv.1-2.  We are not to please ourselves to which St Paul has already covered in the ch.14 vv. 2-6. Our faith is not that is in question but not to leave it for another to stumble upon demonstrates love of Christ. We resist showing off for edifying others in their spiritual growth. “It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak.(v.21) We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and…

As children of God our inheritance is among the children of light. “That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; (Phi.2:15). Light radiating from our daily lives shall have no impurities to prevent us from being seen as children of light. We are growing from glory to glory meaning that it is a natural growth where we are connected as many members to Christ the Head.

In Jesus’ time there were many who had made it their task to catch him in his word or action. They judged by their standards. Jesus called Matthew, a tax-collector and he followed him. He was despised for working for the Roman occupiers. He invited his master to dine with him  “And it came to pass, as Jesus sat at meat…

In an earlier post we discussed how individualism was misconstrued in those who spearheaded great movements. Washington on one hand and Lenin on the other. They represent two nations and their ideologies for all their professed superiorities show in working something peculiar. Such secular concession to human spirit with an ideological makeover (pursuit of happiness, worker’s paradise etc.,) have never worked well. Without Christ as the Head, individualism of leaders throws up most peculiar results. As part of the Body of Christ we are the salt of the earth. If we have lost the savor of individualism of what use are we? Modern churches in trying to sanitize the unspeakable powers-that-be, is a case in point.

As a child of God we live as dead to the world. So individualism is not in the sense we speak of pioneers who opened up new sea routes ushering the Age of exploration…

E pluribus unum – Latin for “Out of many, one” – is a traditional motto of the United States, appearing on the Great Seal. It is intended here to describe the nature of the Church in relation to Christ, the Head. Every one of us in Christ is an indivisible part of the Kingdom of God, it is called the New Earth. When God the Son would have completed it, we shall have the heaven and the earth as new. “And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new(Re.21:5).  Fellowship as was in the will of the Father shall be revealed as new heaven and new earth. It also has a generic name ‘tabernacle’.”Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God (21:3)”.

“And when he (Jesus) was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:(Lk.17:20-21). Jesus said of a kingdom where the dead hold equal status with the living. In the following line we have the key: “Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.” Here we have the definition of the kingdom of God in past perfect sense. God the Father had foreknown all those who were called and when He sent his only begotten Son it was left to the discretion of the Son to fulfill it.”…No man cometh unto the Father, but by me(John 14:6)”. He was the way, and the truth and the life.” He knew where he was going and it is beautifully illustrated while he was in Bethany in the…

Kingdom of God is is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. Those who are called and and are worked into it are what Jesus qualifies as ‘the little ones’. Jesus explains it ” every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life(Matt.19:27-29). Those who render unto Caesars of this world shall get their dues. Have we not seen the ilk of Michael Flynn, Manafort Cohen Roger Stone. Take any age and how long did they play the fool in the borrowed clothes, and did it make the world any better place?

Authority of this world is established by symbols of power. It serves a purpose with the very rationale we use emojis in the Age of Social Media. We want to be liked without having to cultivate friends that they also grow with you which spoke for a bygone age. So we employ shortcuts to indicate our moods without really caring to bare one’s real feelings. Similarly we are among the worldly serving the only One and True God while putting up with obligations demanded of us. We are among the worldly but not of the world really.

The great Seal of the Kingdom attests the charter or Law as specified has no other intermediary to add or dilute but goes to the king or the queen direct. Similarly a coin minted by the authority of Caesar specifies its worth and is attested by the image of the Caesar. It is…

Mercy like Love is a facet of Holiness to which only God is entitled. I AM THAT I AM is the Name and it characterizes God. Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today and forever similarly delineates Holiness of God which does not suffer any injury. Thus eternal standard laid before us is to give a vision as to what degree we need grow. Any one in Christ has therefore eternity ahead and anyone who stops short is not gathering with Christ but is scattering instead. In the Parable of the Talents each servant was entrusted with talents according to their several abilities. The servant who was given one talent had opportunity to earn much more but his measure of faith was not perfect. “Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown…

The Lord’s Prayer has this:”…Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. (Matt.6:10)”The Body prepared for the Son (Ps.40:7;He.10:5-7) The writer to the Hebrews also refers to it, “Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me.” This is with reference to what was in the divine Will. Where the NT writer refers is how God the Son fulfilled it. It is body a memorial, and a body fashioned after human body. The prayer is the very foundation of Christian Living so every believer while on earth model their body of experience in the manner Jesus Christ fulfilled the human aspect. This becomes all the more significant when we identify with the body of Christ to which Holy communion is a reminder of what our Savior Lord did. He poured out meaning that he totally identified with the world…
