Conclusion for the First Book

The Book of Psalms consists of five books and this five fold division owes to the five books of the Torah. It merely suggests the Hebraic outlook at the 150 psalms as songs of praise set to music or accompanied by musical accompaniment.  Limiting it to praise God is similar to approach the Scripture literally. Our worship must be in Spirit and truth and the enduring message of the word eternally settled in heaven ought to teach us theology of the Psalms is not in any system but placing our worship with all our heart beyond treatises to prove human scholarship. It is thus we walk the talk being locked well into Meditations of God. Christian Living it is called.

Psalms written by King David is in fact God-breathed. So anonymous composers are as well as represented by Jesus Christ who uttered the lines composed…

“For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls(1 Pe.2:25)”.

Resonance of soul for each differs. It has no known place and yet I am willing to vouch for it from my earthly existence and it is a daily thing that a word can set me on fire and flashing images similarly transport me for an out of body experience without even having to leave my seat. I stand on solid earth and yet my thoughts take wings as though never were bound. It is what soul in a secular context signifies. It is like two ocean currents, the icy Benguela and the warm, south-flowing Agulhas current creating a chaotic situation where winds and oceans as a whole are players. Similarly what animates every individual owe their origin from different sources primarily two contrary laws, law of sin and of…

In the first two lines we have two contrasting symbols, which the Spirit has used in many passages so we shall consider them first: pit, which is qualified as horrible. Add to it the miry clay, parallel usage referring the first. Body of a carnal man with his appetites and lusts designate changes of body to do evil and cause confusion in its path.”But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members (Ro.7:23)”.  Miry clay is similar to  troubled sea. “But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt(Is.57:20)”. When cars are bogged down in mud the problem is because there is no traction and one cannot get a hold so one may move forward without lurching about. A…

Verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity (v.5)”.

Change is the order of the physical universe. The earth, stars are all temporal in that there are changes taking place without let up. And we see their behavior follow a pattern. When we look at sedimentary rocks what we see is dust blown from elsewhere and having settled down over millennia on the same spot is not the same dust but has undergone change thoroughly to be called something else. Such changes work with living things as well. Saplings given time grows to be trees and given millennia these become fossilized. Man also similarly pass through several phases and symptomatic of physical changes work in their lifestyles as well, Barzillai the Gileadite was a very wealthy man but in his eighties when King David to accompany him to Jerusalem he politely declined the offer. His advanced age…

Where does sickness come from? When we speak of our inheritance we point to God as our salvation. We live cheek by jowl with ungodly in two variable speeds. The upright knowing their inheritance is secure would depend on God of all mercies and trust He would as Bishop of their souls ever lead them through thick and then. Sin on one hand brings squalor and misery and it can affect the upright as well. Medical science has established lung cancer can attack even those who never smoke. Secondary smoke is in the air we breathe. Nations by allowing industries to reap high profits to pollute rivers with effluents as in the case of Flint, Michigan put public health to jeopardy. In many cases innocents suffer for the sins of others. Apostle Peter is quoting Isaiah says of Jesus Christ thus:”But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised…

Power and Wisdom for the upright is powered by truth which is like the talent every one according to his ability puts to work. “Let every man abide in the same calling wherein he was called(1 Co.7:20) . From verses following this it is clear that St Paul is not speaking about outward circumstance but of being entrusted with talents ‘ to every man according to his several ability(Matt.25:15)’ So truth of any child of God is to know who we serve really. “You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of men(v.23).” If so one does not confess Jesus as the Lord and take up service in the household of mammon. This makes the activism ‘ of evangelicalism suspect. In order to impress Christian ethics one does not wander like a bird from place our Lord has placed us.”As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is…

Plead my cause, O Lord, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me./ Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for mine help./ Draw out also the spear, and stop the way against them that persecute me: say unto my soul, I am thy salvation (vv.1-3).”

Truth of the matter regarding Christian Living is this:’Say unto my soul, I am thy salvation.’ Success of it is not by fighting our enemies by the weapons they employ. Wickedness that we confront in our daily situations is in the manner our motives, actions are given a slant to make even innocuous words end up charged with bad motives. King David speaks of his own experience in vv.11-13. Our Redeemer Lord when confronted by accusers did not say a word.”And he answered him to never a word; insomuch that the governor marvelled…

The transgression of the wicked saith within my heart, that there is no fear of God before his eyes (v.1)”.

What is transgression but sin? “Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin (Jas.4:17)”.God has set what is knowable of His power and Wisdom in the inward parts of man. Truth is the means for anyone to profit thereby. Power of a talent as in the Parable of the Talents(Matt.25:14-30) was the servant who was entrusted with it could have worked with it. Power and Wisdom do not work in vacuum; neither does power be it is only one talent. He has had chance to understand truth but to which he had no genuine appreciation. Transgression of the wicked is in denying truth and consequently he would speak falsely. Thus the wicked servant did speak of his master,”…I knew thee…

Heavenly places is an expression to indicate joy as against desolate places for dismay and confusion The earth is full of goodness of the Lord. So when we read desolation in the sense it is used in the following verse we can assume it is the result of divine judgment “Come, behold the works of the LORD, what desolations he hath made in the earth(Ps.46:8)”.When Prophet Jeremiah predicted judgment over Babylon he had this to say,”Her cities are a desolation, a dry land, and a wilderness, a land wherein no man dwelleth, neither doth any son of man pass thereby (Je.51:43)”. Desolation is applied in case of individuals as well. “When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none (Matt.12:43)”.

In contrast to such desolate dry place, are pleasant places. “The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant
