In the previous pst we considered relation of the church to Christ. We shall consider this quote, “Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord(v.22)”. Submission is as unto the Lord as husbands by the same token are connected to the head. “For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the savior of the body(v.23). Wife is as much a symbol (as well as flesh and bone are in a body) as equidistant as husbands from the lordship of the Savior Lord. Symbol of light makes nature of flesh and bone as true as the light is”.

.The same unity of the Spirit in this last chapter works with the Father son relationship on the earth. The v.1 presents righteousness which was first presented by the Son whose obedience raised him above…

In vv.1-8 we have a description of children of light where God, the Father is qualified as the Father of lights. Truth that is in Christ makes the Son as the true Light that lights everyone who comes into the world.

‘Be ye perfect as he is’. In the Father of light there is no darkness(Jas.1:17). What makes light shine less or cuts it off is given in vv.3-7. St Paul warns  children of light to keep no company with children of darkness. ‘Evil communications corrupt good manners(1 Co.15:33-34)’. In v.34 he says,’for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame’. Where does this knowledge come come from? The much quoted verse here points to the glory of Jesus Christ. The Word made flesh has shined in our hearts. ( 2 Co.4:6) It is the face of the risen Christ that shall give us an…

In the Bible we come across many mysteries but the most remarkable feature of these mysteries without exception has but one key. It is the Word.  When St Paul speaks of a great mystery we understand it refers to the nature of the light. ” But all things that are reproved are made manifest is light. “…for whatsoever doth make manifest is light (v.13)”.  Later as he comes to Christ and the Church  we can appreciate the nature of true Light where flesh of my flesh and bone of my bones has only one natural centre where body, spirit and symbolic value of the other two are one. Jesus Christ the same yesterday today and forever symbolized by the Word. In the creation account, Let there be light; and it was so.  In v.14 it is also a sign.

Light separated darkness from it indicating fellowship of God…

God is a Spirit and it is by the unity of the Spirit ‘we can grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:’ The earth had no form and was void. When we read of the new earth and new heaven in the Book of the Revelation how do we compare it with  this statement,’In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth(Ge.1:1)’ this newness is signified by the head even Christ. Between the Head and the Body the Spirit reconciled whatever had come in.

St Paul compares the old man with new man before and after as sponsored advertisements would have us believe. It is a new creation.   ‘that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.’ God created man from the ground so he could be called earthy or carnal. He breathed into…
