Color: Blue

“I am a wild flower,

Magnificent and tragic.

I overgrow the daisies

And grasses around me,

Beautiful in my own way.

But together with the lilies,

The tulips, and the daffodils,

I’ve also overgrown you.

I threw a shadow over your soul,

And without the light of the sun

How are you supposed to grow? ” (Selected p.83)

From The Colour of Kindness by Emma-Lidewij and is available through Amazon.  At eighteen I had not begun writing poetry. I came across this poem and share with my readers.

My Valentine is a fresh Red Rose,-

Roses, Roses,Roses

I shall throw in your path

From the couch to the hall,

And beyond;

I shall sweep the yard and gather

the crushed roses

And give them a fond farewell

Before the trash can is

set out for the van.

Roses, Roses, Roses!

Oh my valentine!

Roses are meant to fade away

But even years after

We shall together remember

This one crazy Valentine spirit

You and I may laugh but

when we smell it e’en in the corners

Of our crumbling home

We shall think it was a fine thing to do

After all.

My love reveals objects
silken butterflies
concealed in his fingers

his words
splash me with stars

night shines like lightning
under the fingers of my love

My love invents worlds where
jeweled glittering serpents live

worlds where music is the world

worlds where houses with open eyes
contemplate the dawn

My love is a mad sunflower that forgets
fragments of sun in the silence

Oh Love, with your soft glances make heaven

Of this earth: I see the wind as haven

For birds of the air: you by my side hold

The earth with sky one o’er the horizon.

How deep Is My Love?

I love you as an epistle

sealed with a kiss;

(Postage is on the house)

You ask how deep is deep:

Ask, love,

how far will you take it instead?

Take till time’s end

Fly by the land’s end

And fall off the precipice

(as I have done)

Between a wink and the REM,

Between wakeful and sleep states:

The letter shall survive

the ups and downs

east west north south

Of our mortality

In time’s arrow reconciled.

If our love be found

past time and space

In the two bottles,-

On the shores of beach,

fused as one

For eternity- we never lost it.

i carry your heart with me (i carry it in
my heart) i am never without it (anywhere
i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)

i fear no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) i want
no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)

Your voice like strings plucked, and words

You intone give new meaning to the bards;

By your loveliness surround we may yet

Transported anywhere, a-winging like birds.
