Pharaoh may have lorded over the entire Egypt but what was his heart? It was same as heart of the lowest of the realm. “He fashioneth their hearts alike; he considereth all their works(Ps.33:15)” Truth written in inward parts speaks of universal brotherhood so when God sets one or sets another down truth is not changed.

Notwithstanding Pharaoh deigns himself to give audience to Moses it is his pomp and circumstance that is in evidence. His heart is same. “And Pharaoh said, Who is the Lord, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the Lord, neither will I let Israel go(5:2)”. In short by his arrogance he was holding truth in unrighteousness. When God the Son comes to the world ‘But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant’ it is truth through and through. President or Pharaoh as father…

And the Lord spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,/ When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent./ And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the Lord had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent.

The Lord speaks to Moses and as and when Pharaoh challenges it was Aaron who should cast his rod before him. First time when Moses did before God his rod had become a serpent and the rod of Moses was a sign to him, This shows a personal Association where God is “I AM THAT I AM” and his rod was his proof. Correspondingly Aaron was to trust God and cast it before Pharaoh. We shall…

And the Lord said unto Moses, See, I have made thee a god to Pharaoh: and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet. Thou shalt speak all that I command thee: and Aaron thy brother shall speak unto Pharaoh, that he send the children of Israel out of his land(vv.1-2).

Here we see Principle of Association in which one crucial factor establishes that it is an anomaly rather than the rule where the gospel of God is disseminated to the world through His Son (Matt.10:40). Merely because earlier audience with Pharaoh caused him to harden his heart God did not call off the embassy of Moses. Now it is between equals where God makes him a god even as Pharaoh would imagine as one. This is one reason the plagues that God sends subsequently is an all out assault against Egyptian pantheon of gods. God as Jehovah is almighty God who…

Monsieur Verdoux-1947
The tale of the Blue Beard is nothing new. Remember the Arabian nights? King Shahryar was one but the Thousands and one Night tales surrounding his heinous crime detract us from it. Days of king of kings behaving badly are gone. In a dog eat dog world of capitalism it is all profits that make man horny. Lately we read how one pizza company torched a rival company for a larger profit margin. Killing for money is the sign of the times. Insider trader from Goldman Sachs or from Citibank we have men who forget themselves by the lure of gold. Less luckier ones need make do with francs and centimes. There is so much in life so beautiful, acme of perfection and ultimate in Nature’s simplicity. These are all free and yet how many do you think turn man on or make him laugh at comedy of…

These are that Aaron and Moses, to whom the Lord said, Bring out the children of Israel from the land of Egypt according to their armies./These are they which spake to Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring out the children of Israel from Egypt: these are that Moses and Aaron./ And it came to pass on the day when the Lord spake unto Moses in the land of Egypt. (vv.26-28)”

Moses as forerunner of Jesus Christ is made distinct, and it is what the Holy Spirit, by giving the genealogy of Levi, rather that of Aaron and his lineage(vv.23-25). The Spirit’s intent is to set off the order of Melchizedek against Levitical priesthood. The context also gives us evidence of the drift. Hardness of Pharaoh’s heart is what we are coming up against. When the Pharisees tested Jesus on the matter of divorce we have his answer that is the core value and…

“And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name Jehovah was I not known to them.”

Moses was chosen by God of whom he had to know better. It is what walking by faith means. “ Can two walk together, except they be agreed?(Amos 3:3)” They have shared experience and different names given in the Bible are indicators of the spiritual deepening of holy men of old.”And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect(Ge.17:1)

God’s promise to Abraham indicated a covenant where circumcision was a sign. “And I have also established my covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their pilgrimage, wherein they were strangers(v.4)”.Moses was as diffident of Pharaoh as he…

And Moses returned unto the Lord, and said, Lord, wherefore hast thou so evil entreated this people? why is it that thou hast sent me?/ For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he hath done evil to this people; neither hast thou delivered thy people at all.(vv.22-23)

God had warned Moses beforehand that his embassy was a difficult one.’but I will harden his heart, that he shall not let the people go(4:21)”. Pharaoh had a cultural baggage and it made him as a descendant of the sun god the right to his lie. It was the official line and everything else was fake news.

One only need look at the artifacts of Ancient Egypts how dynasties after dynasties had perpetuated an alternate narrative that placed them a unique position. “And Pharaoh said, Who is the Lord, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I…

And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the Lord, Israel is my son, even my firstborn:/ And I say unto thee, Let my son go, that he may serve me: and if thou refuse to let him go, behold, I will slay thy son, even thy firstborn. (vv.21-22)

Moses now is an Apostle for he was sent by God. As with young Jeremiah ‘For thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.” He did not touch His mouth but the rod is his hand served the purpose equally well. Jeremiah thought he was too young for the job. Oh no the Word entrusted to him was eternal word of God and the action of touching his mouth gave him an altered state, that he did and said on behalf of the Lord God. It was thus Moses was his…

“And it came to pass by the way in the inn, that the Lord met him, and sought to kill him./ Then Zipporah took a sharp stone, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet, and said, Surely a bloody husband art thou to me./ So he let him go: then she said, A bloody husband thou art, because of the circumcision.(vv.24-26)”

After God sent Moses to meet with his people there was a matter of leave taking from his father-in law(v.18). The Spirit inserted this in order to give a framework where he served as a sign (‘And thou shalt take this rod in thine hand, wherewith thou shalt do signs’). At a superficial level the Spirit will have us remember Moses as a deliverer holds a parallel relationship with Jesus the Redeemer. (Moses was the son-in-law of Jethro the priest of Midian.)

And thou shalt take this rod in thine hand, wherewith thou shalt do signs. (v.17)”

A sign can only be considered where it is validated by God. “For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect(Matt.24:24). Here we read commanding Moses to take the rod along with which he was required to do signs.

Circumcision is a sign which was validated by God. It serves as a seal of approval only as far one obeyed commandments of God implicitly (1 Co.7:19). “For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love (Gal.5:6)”.

God’s Law is the basis for the constitution of the Kingdom of God. God did not need earthquake to make Himself known to Elijah but he heard just the same…
