What is in a name? In Hebraic tradition name betokened not merely a label but the essence of the person. It carries a volume or identity of the bearer. It must said that no name has ever come by its own force. The sound of the word itself relates to a symbol, sign that preexisted. When Mary mother of Jesus inspired by the Visitation exclaims ‘holy is his name’ (Lk.1:49) it is the Holy Spirit who defines it. Thus name of Jacob stands in relation to the Holiness of God. The volume or identity The significance of the name Jacob is derived from the noun ‘āqēb for heel, consequently the Hebrew word ya’aqōb suggests heel catching or supplanter. So the name found Isaac and the Spirit describes the birth of the boy, Esau the first came out fiery red and next ‘came his brother out, and his his hand took…

Glory of a physical form is not in itself. “There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory.(1 Co.15:41)”St Paul goes on to show resurrection similarly has it difference from its physical body.”So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:”It is not about form but glory that works behind death and life. Here Jesus places the entire Cosmic Will of God on what seems contradictory to each other. “Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit./ He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal(John…

The eternal word of God is the Law or constitution of the kingdom of God. In the beginning of this chapter we read Jesus promising its coming with power. He was indicating the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon all flesh without gender bias upon all who believed. This Association has its anchor in the Word which was God.

When the Spirit wants to instruct us in righteousness it is not in terms of physical or spiritual aspects he explains the divine Will. Thus we have symbols representing everlasting covenant, Fellowship of God with Man necessitate a sacrifice. “For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified(He.10:14)”. This perfect sacrifice directly refers to the final act in the drama Mark is leading us to. Body and slaim Lamb before the worlds began are examples of symbolism (Ps.40:6, Re.13:8)

How shall we compare this outpouring of the…

Young Nasruddin was old enough to go to school. His father got another servant of the sultan to suggest a teacher. Name of the sultan and his liveried servant opened the door of an exclusive school.

Thus young Nasruddin one morning accompanied his father to the head teacher.

Presenting the new pupil his father gushed, “My boy is all for learning, Munshi. He has already some opinion as to what he wants to become.”

The teacher was impressed,” So boy, you want to be like your father. Always at beck and call of the exalted sultan?”

Nasruddin,” He is sultan’s flunkey. Make me your monkey so I can climb the tree of knowledge.”

“What does rising from the dead should mean?” Here we are watching a preview of our lives with our Lord. Anyone in Christ is passed from death to life. “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life(John 5:24;1 John 3:14).”

The three disciples who belonged to his inner circle saw Moses and Elias. How did they know? This transfiguration is not merely for Jesus who took them apart for a purpose. He led them ‘up into an high mountain apart by themselves:’ It is foreknowledge so Jesus solemnly charged them ‘that they should tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of man were risen from the dead.’Jesus had to accomplish what he had come there for.’ The same principle of…

And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power.

How does the kingdom of God come with power? An analogy from science shall help us understand. Remember science is seeking truth which however considers only our physical universe and whatever makes it, world of atoms and cosmos, and it need not hold up our discussion. It has consequently limited significance since we are dealing with two worlds simultaneously interacting where we have body and spirit. If we look into atoms the space within which fundamental particles behave with the same manner planets keep their orbital paths about the sun in the Milky Way. With such correspondence merely examining the physical aspect is limited.

By the same argument do we not see a school…

Young Nasruddin at home was the pet of all women who whenever visited fussed over him and said, “My burfi! my honey bun! Nasruddin heard the names of every dish ever cooked sweet in the neighborhood. He listened with wonder how mothers of his playmates showered freely,-to his amazement they positively drooled when they rolled the names on their tongues, and petted him. One day a neighbor said, You are such a ‘jileby!’ He stopped her and said,’ When do I get to taste them, auntie?”

“And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the towns of Caesarea Philippi: and by the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Whom do men say that I am?/And they answered, John the Baptist; but some say, Elias; and others, One of the prophets./And he saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ.”

Jesus as the Word was from the beginning with God. His eternal nature crackles through the world of the Spirit. Eternal word forever settled in heaven explains Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today and forever. It is like oxygen in the air we breathe. We do not see it with naked eyes but it is self evident since we are able to appreciate the manifold blessings as with every other creature great and small. This perfection of the Father works…

Healing of the Blind: vv.22-25

Compare this with what we have discussed how Jesus healed the man with impediment in speech. Let us refresh our minds and prior to healing he did as we read, “And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened (7:34)’.On the other hand here is what he did with the blind.

“And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him./And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought./ And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.  After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and…
