“I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all./

For man also knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare; so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them“.

In an earliest post we considered time and judgement which is determined by God whose providence is as sure as His judgment is. His patience gives several agencies in flux and in full flow to perfect His Will. In v.1 we saw everything that happens are according to his Will ,’that the righteous, and the wise…

Esau the elder in his day wanted his portion. After a hard day hunting under the sun who would not be fatigued? He came home and asked his brother for what he had on hand,. The steaming red pottage tickled his smell and he had to have it. His devious brother equally had a point for long and it belonged to his elder brother, and he had to have it.”And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright./ And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me? (Ge.25:31-32). Esau was one of the wannabes who would have felt at home in the age of instant gratification.

Jacob was a deceiver and his weakness heel-catching habit surely was an unpleasant trait. God would deal with it in his own time but his ardor for God and His promises to…

Continued from the previous post,”weapons of war”

Here we have an allegory in vv.14-15: the little city is the world of spirit ruled by the heart of man.The heart is not simply an anatomical part but a world in itself.Like tongue it can kindle great conflagration and make white look like black and shadows seem too real to make man commit desperate acts. Don Quichot was too mild titling at windmills whereas we have had POTUS who would throw the whole nation so precariously holding as one into so many pieces by the Big Lie. What was his reason? A desperate attempt to escape settling his creditors by claiming Presidential immunity or any other. Did not he come with te promise of making America great again? What greatness was in dividing the house, nothing short of a miracle can heal the split?

In an unreal world where the Old Liar…

“Wisdom is better than weapons of war: but one sinner destroyeth much good.”

Weapons of war cannot match wisdom is the lesson we need draw from this passage. War is not the natural state of man. Each of us is a living proof of it. “For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office(Ro.12:4).” Yet hands do not grudge the feet that it can go where it will nor the feet envy that mouth gets to taste while it has to do all the walking. Every member is seamlessly joined to one another in a healthy body. Yet we have this verse,”This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh./ For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other:…

For all this I considered in my heart even to declare all this, that the righteous, and the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God: no man knoweth either love or hatred by all that is before them(v.1).

Every man under the sun casts a shadow and he may see it also lengthen or at high noon nothing, -signifying what he sees on the ground is dependent on what goes overhead. It is thus this visible world taken at face value is a charade. There is more going on behind the scenes.

The preacher speaks here one certainty which is that we are in the hand of God. .”He that is our God is the God of salvation; and unto GOD the Lord belong the issues from death(Ps.68:20)”. For those who trust in him and abide under his wings he is the God of salvation.

Death is…

“Because to every purpose there is time and judgment, therefore the misery of man is great upon him.

‘But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of theLord,’-Jonah avoiding God’s charge had no clue as to what awaited him. The world of flesh does not tell the whole facts.

What do we mean by God’s presence? Does it not include both worlds of flesh and Spirit? Jonah’s presence in the ship bound for Tarshish put everyone in the vessel at risk. Nations are like ship carrying peoples across. There are so many great migrations. Out of Africa or out of Old Europe, what is in a name? This is how nations carve history. When we see nations roiling under great calamities be certain that there is time and judgment and it shall be determined by God’s time and his judgment shall not go off the mark. He weighs…

“Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.”

In the US politics not so long ago was a controversy raked up that went by the name 1619 project. How much water has flown ever since that year and it can still raise hackles among the conservatives. How can a year touch some raw nerve? If these same group still demand the right of carrying guns there must be some past misdeed, a spiritual malaise has created a under the siege mentality one would think. Against 1619 does the war cry 1796 make sense? It is though each would cancel the other out!

Why war of years perhaps throw some light in understanding the nation that was built on the lands by clearing older civilizations. The recent news of finding unmarked graves of indigenous children around…

Where does one go to if one were in mood for mirth? It cannot be on Surfside, north of Miami, where the house was built on doubtful premises. Anything built on ground that heaves and undergoes changes cannot be called a house of mirth. Man stands on ground where geological activities make his certainties somewhat dubious. Nowhere we may find the house of mirth built by hands.

God has fashioned all hearts alike; a heart where Christ may dwell is special. It is a house of merriment. So the Psalmist could say,”Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased(Ps.4:7)”. The world has their corn and wine both of which in the age of Mart comes tainted. Merriment of the fools proves to be deadly for great many. When one hears the jingle we have an idea of the song…

Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil.

There is a reasonable service pleasing to God and also there is the sacrifice of fools. The latter follows ways of the spirit, which is epitome of disobedience to sound knowledge. God has nothing to do with heresies that come to trouble a believer the source of which is from Satan.

In these posts we have come across the prince of the power of the air who works through children of disobedience. He is the oppressor who gives them access to glories of the world but it serves only to tighten his hold over them. “He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver;(5:10).” His covetousness grows exponentially and it is to his own hurt…

“All the labour of man is for his mouth, and yet the appetite is not filled”.

What is the power of a little thing as tongue? “Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! (Jas.3:5)”.

When God picked Moses to be His spokesman he pleaded he was not skillful and what does He say,”Who hath made man’s mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the LORD?(Ex.4:11). In the end God allows the principle of Association work here as with the Gospel of God. Aaron becomes His mouth instead. Moses was to put His words and not his own. So fruit of his mouth worked in same manner as the Gospel, all through the chain of Command. Without it what was Aaron, nothing. We shall see this point…
