Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered./Blessed is the man unto whom theLordimputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile.

In vv.1-2 we have a definite statement, a classic maskil for our understanding, and it is to do with the relationship with God and Man and by extension of this, forms the basis for the Logos aspect. The Word was with God and the Word was God. . The purpose of the Word is extended to include the creature, the man. Christ who of God has become wisdom and to our present intent and purpose, the righteousness. (1 Co.1:30) So the Holy Spirit annotates it for our instruction: “Blessed is the man unto whom the Lord does not impute iniquity. The reason is simple. “For he hath made himto besin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be…

According to Got Questions website on the topic of maskil we have this info: “Thirteen times, the term maskil (also spelled maschil) occurs in the title of a psalm (Psalms 324244—4552—55747888—89, and 142). Certain Bible translations have rendered the word in English, referring to it as “a contemplation” (NKJV), “a well-written song” (NET Bible), “a contemplative psalm” (NHEB), or “an instruction” (YLT). The Hebrew word maskil is also found in Amos 5:13, where it is translated as “prudent” (ESV) or having “insight” (CSB). Many biblical scholars believe that a maskil is meant to be meditative and to impart wisdom.”

“The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.”(Ps.12:8). Here is another:”Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.”(119::9)…

In the previous post we considered our heritage when Christ is our head. We walk by faith and not by sight. In other words we have become signs and wonders. When God issued a safe conduct pass to Cain there was no ned for pen and ink but the secret of His presence was warning enough to all busybodies among whom he would henceforth pass forth. “And it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me./ And the Lord said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the Lord set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.”(Ge.4:14-14). Cain subsequently went away from the presence of God and settled in the land of Nod. However the signs we bear in Christ are altogether different. It must be something equivalent to ‘Zion-bound’ judging from a curious incident hardly discussed…

In thee, OLord, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in thy righteousness.

2Bow down thine ear to me; deliver me speedily: be thou my strong rock, for an house of defence to save me.

3For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name’s sake lead me, and guide me.

4Pull me out of the net that they have laid privily for me: for thou art my strength.

5Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, OLordGod of truth.

“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”In Psalm 27 David asks,”The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” (v.1). In yet another psalm he declares,”The lines are…

I will extol thee, O Lord; for thou hast lifted me up, and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me.

Absalom rose against his father but did not succeed. Saul before him was a far bigger obstacle but God cleared the way for the man after his own heart. In short the psalm of praise is from the heat of his own personal experience. David’s song of salvation is new song because it identifies with what Jesus could claim as his own. The Jews on trumped up charges prevailed over him before Pilate but he triumphed over death when he rose again on the third day. Jesus promised eternal life to whoever believed in him. His church can ever since claim victory over death. Death is the last enemy. “The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.”(1 Co.15:26)

In v.7 we read ‘thou hast made my mountain…

This psalm carries a superscription which makes it very unique. The Hebrew word ‘schir’ translates joyful song. In primary sense therefore we treat this and the following psalm as a ‘new song’ associated with salvation. “ Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O Lord God of truth.”(31:5) David is anticipating the dying breath of Jesus on the cross, “And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.”(Luke 23:46)

Before we go further into the psalm we shall treat this as an example of the literary mode of miktam. David apparently signifies it as a song intended, ‘For the dedication of the temple’. At the deeper level it is the dedication of his body while Jesus presided over the last supper, “And he took bread, and gave…

Not a day would have gone for Christians everywhere without reciting this phrase as part of the doxology taught by our Lord. How little do we realize we are placing ourselves in the hum of the heartbeats of throne of grace pulsating ‘For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory’. Are we like cogs in a vast machinery found place in the gigantic machinery on the design board but forgotten for what use? This must be the case where faith is absent from the works.

In John’s vision the four and twenty elders are shown praising him and it represents the entire. “Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.”(Re.4:11) All these including man are created for his pleasure. “Bless the Lord, ye his angels, that excel in strength…

Give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name; worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.”(v.2)Here we have a raison d’etre for praising him in the beauty of holiness.

Consider the hosts in heaven, the great congregations attending the Lord God and they acknowledge the glory due unto his name. Far greater import than these is in the wisdom of God who called us in his Son. When He anointed him above everything else it is a clear indication that praise signifies much more than we give in the casual sense of the word.

David, says,’O my soul bless ye the Lord’ he is part of the same congregation, praising Him according to the will of God. We an example of this in the manner child Samuel ministered unto the Lord before Eli. We have a proof of this in the manner He called him out.”And the Lord said to Samuel, Behold, I…

The superscription refers to the state of being when God has ceased to built up one. Think of the one built his castle on sand? So much of effort went into it and it explains how man built his brave new world on the strength of his cleverness. But does it show anywhere? What gives?

Man’s hands, tool making hands were the finest so he could split an atom and release tremendous energy, It could harness the energy from the sun and light up the entire globe coast to coast, and we have set in real time under lab conditions have we not? If it was so wonderful why are we still jittery over a gas war? Or for that matter over a nuclear holocaust? Why are we rattled every time the rocket man test a missile in some pokey corner of the world? The answer is simple: the foundation on…

Teach me thy way, O Lord, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies./Deliver me not over unto the will of mine enemies: for false witnesses are risen up against me, and such as breathe out cruelty./ I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living./ Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord./

‘Because of mine enemies’

God sent his only begotten Son to the world but as John says,”He came unto his own, and his own received him not.”(John 1:11). Later when Jesus would observe, “And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household.”(Matt.10:36) one can appreciate that he spoke from experience. In the time of Jesus he had plenty of enemies. Pharisees and the Sadducees would try many times entangle…
