Complaints quoted above began at the farthest or the uttermost parts of the camp. How did the mixed multitude land up among the Israelites? 34And the cloud of theLordwas upon them by day, when they went out of the camp.

35And it came to pass, when the ark set forward, that Moses said, Rise up,Lord, and let thine enemies be scattered; and let them that hate thee flee before thee.

36And when it rested, he said, Return, OLord, unto the many thousands of Israel.

God gave the Israelites various commandments which we have been considering lately and these were done while they were stationed by the mount. Now it was time for them to set out in the direction of their Promised Land.

God could have led the Israelites by an easier route. But God chose another route and it can be said that he wanted His nation, His chosen people to be fighting fit. They were to be His peculiar treasure that one does not pick like a beach comber,. Peculiar treasure is like the pearl of great price(Matt.13:45-46) for which man must be prepared all his resources brought to bear upon the single enterprise and it calls for a boot camp and this present life in the world of flesh is just that. We have an example a cloud of witnesses encompassing us while the pearl of great price in in our sights. The body is our biggest hurdle, so near yet so far one might say going by the manner the Israelites faltered..
