vv.1-6
Joab was incensed that King David was undermining the morale of his army and that of the people by his unashamed display of sorrow for his slain son. He faulted him,”For this day I perceive, that if Absalom had lived, and all we had died this day, then it had pleased thee well(v.6)”. King David knew fully well that it all had to do with his transgression against God. On one hand his soul was composed that God had forgiven his sin and created a new heart. But consequences of his foolishness had caught his son in its coils and he did not have the strength to overcome them as he had. Joab did not any appreciation for the things of the Spirit. So his reproach was all the more harsh as indictment on him. Psalm 57 gives us an insight into it.
