The text for this post can be summed up in one verse:”For we can do nothing against the truth, but for the truth (2 Co.13:8)”. Adonijah proposed himself to sit in place of his father as Absalom earlier had. He knew how to steal the hearts of all people with his winning ways and extremely good looks. Absalom would not make it merely by some intrigue; neither would Adonijah. He certainly found some big names to further his cause. Nathan the prophet approached Bathsheba and said,”Let me, I pray thee, give thee counsel, that thou mayest save thine own life, and the life of thy son Solomon(v.12).  And his father had not displeased him at any time in saying, Why hast thou done so? and he also was a very goodly man; and his mother bare him after Absalom./ And he conferred with Joab the son of Zeruiah, and with Abiathar the priest: and they following Adonijah helped him.But Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and Nathan the prophet, and Shimei, and Rei, and the mighty men which belonged to David, were not with Adonijah.

How effective is pride of man against obedience of the Son? In the example of Absalom we know it did not help his case. Now it is the turn of Adonijah.
