In order to empower him for the arduous tasks ahead,  carrying within the general trends affecting the exiled nation, also personal losses, the vision was an equivalent of the Angel of the Lord urging Elijah to eat, and drink because he has a long journey ahead of him.’ However the glory of God served it up mostly topical as seen from the choice of living creatures associated with the face of man.

Whirlwind accompanying God we have across before. “Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,..(Job 38:1)” The mention of the north indicates judgment. At the time God gave charge to young Jeremiah it was through a vision, “And the word of the Lord came unto me the second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, I see a seething pot; and the face thereof is toward the north./ Then the Lord said unto me, Out of the north an evil shall break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land (Je.1:13-14)”Here also we are considering the same nation but there is a difference. What is a vision but a foretaste of heaven on the earth? When we speak of Babylonian captivity it is history tracing the rise and fall of the fortunes of Israel. As with the Spirit’s mode we are moving from specific to general and we are pilgrims and sojourners among the worldly. Till such time our Lord Redeemer comes to claim us from mid-air it is yet another vision where shall see ‘heavens’ being open as it did to the prophet. As we meditate on the sure promises of God this Vision for Israel is also intended for us. We shall soon come to it.
