What does the key verse tell us? Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord.” St Paul at the end of his ministry would say ‘Amen’ to it. So would St Stephen the first martyr of the nascent church. “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”(2 Ti.4:7) We shall look at the end of St Stephen. “And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit./ And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.” (Ac.7:59-60)…

 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,

We came across angels earlier. For example we have three instances each having to do with the everlasting gospel. “And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book? (5:2) ” In the next instance it has to do with the seal of God. “And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God”(7:1). Here was another:”And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud.”(10:1) . Here he held a little open book.

 And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father’s name written in their foreheads./And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps:”(vv.1-2)

This vision of the Lamb is yet another. In Ch.5 the Lamb was set in order to indicate the preeminence of the Son the Alpha and Omega aspect of salvation and judgment. “And, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.”(5;6).
