Peter and John were seized for causing a great commotion at the temple following the news of a miracle. Next morning they were questioned by Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas and their men. They were questioned,”By what power, or by what name, have ye done this?” In vv.8-12 we have the defense of the apostles delivered by Peter. See note under v..12
