In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.” (v.2)

What is your life, it is a vapor.”(Jas 4:4). Those who build their castles for tomorrow is like the rich fool in the Parable of Jesus. “But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’/ “This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.”(Luke 12:20-21-NIV). He set his hopes on the now and missed eternal life. It is how the world of the body treats the fools ‘who want it all now. Their carnal…

And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.”(v.1)

In order to understand this we need refresh our minds with Ezekiel vision of the living water in Ch.47.

In place of the temple St John is looking at the throne of God and of the Lamb which we can now speak of the Head of a living Church. The river of time flows and it must have a place to go to,- is it not?

“Where it enters the Dead Sea. When it empties into the sea, the salty water there becomes fresh./ Swarms of living creatures will live wherever the river flows. There will be large numbers of fish, because this water flows there and makes the salt water fresh; so where the river flows everything will live.” (Ez.47:9-10)

And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it./ And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.”

Jesus in his prayer speaks of the glory which he had before the worlds began.”And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.”(John 17:5). This throws light into the Temple of Solomon in which God appears to King Solomon. “That the Lord appeared to Solomon the second time, as he had appeared unto him at Gibeon./ And the Lord said unto him, I have heard thy prayer and thy supplication, that thou hast made before me: I have hallowed this house, which thou hast built, to…

And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred and forty and four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of the angel.

In several places we have a cross the spiritual significance of the command number 12. . In the upper room “the number of names together were about an hundred and twenty” with the purpose of choosing an apostle in place of Judas Iscariot. (Ac.1:15).The number had to be right. In terms of the Gospel the twelve represented God the Father and God the Son. (4×3) Doctrine of God is his holiness(‘Holy is his name’) which is his Name: I am that I am. No one has seen him nor can see since as Father of lights. “Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting…

“And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,/ Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal.”(vv.10-11)

Building the holy city is a task left to God, to which Abraham looked for. It is city that has foundations and as the writer to the Hebrews says,”For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.”He.11:10 It is not like building a city that becomes an urban planner’s nightmare complete with inner cities and ghettos. “And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.”(Mal.3:17)…
