“But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves,/Saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath been done by them is manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it.”

John and Peter healed a beggar lame of foot and it was such a wondrous act that some five thousand of men believed when they preached ‘through Jesus the resurrection from the dead.’. For this they were hauled up for an explanation before the council, and their defense made their interrogators all the more angry. Why should the name of Jesus Christ elicit such a violent emotion among their rulers, and elders, and scribes?

Peter spoke: “Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye…

Peter and John were seized for causing a great commotion at the temple following the news of a miracle. Next morning they were questioned by Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas and their men. They were questioned,”By what power, or by what name, have ye done this?” In vv.8-12 we have the defense of the apostles delivered by Peter. See note under v..12

And as they spake unto the people, the priests, and the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees, came upon them,

2Being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead.

3And they laid hands on them, and put them in hold unto the next day: for it was now eventide.

4Howbeit many of them which heard the word believed; and the number of the men was about five thousand.

5And it came to pass on the…

And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people./ Yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold of these days.“(v.24)

Peter is addressing all those who were assembled in the temple of Jerusalem on the day a beggar who had lain at a gate of the temple called ‘Beautiful’ received a cure. Healing of the beggar lame of foot attracted people who,”ran together unto them in the porch that is called Solomon’s, greatly wondering./ And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this?”(vv.11-12). It is to them he warns therefore, the very people who had rejected the Son. “Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when…

But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you;/ And killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses.“(vv.14-15)

God had willed the Son to have life in himself; for Jesus in his humanity was the word become flesh as well. “For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself.”(John 5:26) When God sent his only begotten Son to the world his life was the message. Thus when we call Jesus the man, the message, it goes without saying as the Mediator, God was there in his majesty so what we call as miracles are calling our attention to His word. “He sent out his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave.” (Ps.107:20). It is called

Acts-Ac.2 Conclusion

GuidetohisWord

“And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.”

Without discussing the significance of the day in which God declared the church age our study of this chapter would be incomplete. Firstly a day is appointed for the Son. Of this we have this verse,”Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.”(Is.28:16). Ascension of Jesus was for his disciples. His promise to them was,”And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;” This was spoken by Jesus to which John referred in an earlier occasion,”for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.”(John 7:39; 14:16). The Spirit uses…

Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

38Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

39For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as theLordour God shall call.

40And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.

41Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses./ Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.“(vv.32-33)

Promise of the Holy Ghost was delivered according to the will of the Father and it is centered about the person and deity of Jesus Christ. God a Spirit chose us in his Son so the everlasting covenant being among the equals set the Salvation Plan rolling before the worlds began. Promise of the Spirit made the corrupt body of man new. Accordingly the human Jesus would not see corruption; nor would his soul be left in hell. Out pouring of the HolyGhost served as a sign for the disbelieving Israel and the world in general. It also gave a new vocabulary man where…

And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

2And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

3And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

“The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God.”(Ro.8:18). And it takes place in the world of the Spirit. The Spirit speaks for the heaven; by the same token the Spirit intercedes for all saints so it is heard before the throne of grace. “He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.”…

“These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren./ And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number of names together were about an hundred and twenty,)”

It is now Simon Peter who takes the lead and all other disciples having acquainted with Christ charging him, “And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church,”(Matt..16:18-NIV) Jesus surely meant the one who shall stand in his place. His responsibility also was laid out. ““Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”(Matt.18:18-NIV) From the following verse it is clear that Peter was not solely entrusted with the task. “that if two of you on…

(Disciples)To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God.” (v.3)

Jesus revealed himself to the disciples and the Holy Spirit reveals these evidences as infallible proofs which are both in the worlds of the body and of the Spirit. It is of the latter he said, “For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad.”(Luke 8:17) The same idea Mark cites (Mark 4:22) because as the true Light the ministry of Jesus was to reconcile both heaven and the earth by the single standard of the word which is eternal. ‘Thy word is truth.’

God breathed into the nostrils of Adam and made him a living soul. Before Jesus would depart he revealed,”Peace be…
