The upshot of events we covered in the previous chapter did not augur well for the apostles. In doing good to a fellow being a beggar lame of foot they were hauled before the council and in the end as we read,”And when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go./ And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.”(5:40-41)
Peter and John suffered shame for the name of their master. Jesus had forewarned them, “Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you.
