When we speak of being foreknown it is the absolute certainty of Truth that settles the matter. It was certainly puzzling for the Psalmist. “My substance was not hid from thee!” he declares awed by the power of the Lord God,”and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them(Psalm 139:15-16). Flesh evidently cannot settle the matter since our memory prepares only for a short span which is blip in the eternal time. For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:(v.23)”

Here we have a verse to give us an idea of how exceeding broad the way of life it is. What is life? St James compares it to vapor. “Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away(Jas.4:14).” This being the case life of man is hardly fit to measure it. St John points the life of Jesus and says,’ In him was life; and the life was the light of men.” So the only measure is Jesus Christ who is the true Light,’which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.(John1:9).
